Bevel Edge scissors has flatter edges than a convex scissors.Bevel edges are not as angled as a convexed edge, Bevel Edge scissors are very durable. It holds the hair very well It is usually the scissor of choice for blunt and layer cutting, dry cutting and for the cutting of coarse hair. Its major drawbacks are that one cannot slide cut with it, it runs louder and rougher than a convex scissors

Japanese style Convex scissors have very sharp edges that taper to a sharp point called a convex edge. These edges are very thin and sharp allowing the user to use all cutting techniques, including slide cuts, convex scissors cut through hair smoothly and efficiently, with less force. It runs smoothly, quietly, and very lightly, however, it has the tendency to nick and dull faster than a bevel edge scissors. It also has a tendency to push the hair more than a serrated bevel edge scissors

Scissor Maintenance

Cleaning

Using a soft clean cloth, thoroughly wipe yours scissors after every haircut. This will reduce the build-up of chemicals and hair which may affect the performance of your scissors throughout the working day.

Lubrication

After cleaning and drying your scissors it is recommend that you lubricate. Carefully open your scissor to a 90 degree angle and apply a small ammount of scissor oil to where the scissor pivots. This assists in the cleaning process by pushing dirt, debris and hair from under the pivot and leaves a small layer of protective scissor oil. This process should be carried out daily to prolong the life of your scissors.

Balancing
Correct tension of your scissors will ensure you get the best use out of your scissors. If the tension is too loose it will cause your scissors to fold and bend the hair and if it’s too tight it will cause premature wear of the blade edges.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR TENSION
Hold your thumb blade in the twelve o'clock position, with the tip pointing toward the ceiling.
Lift your finger blade to the nine o'clock position and gently release it.
Your finger blade should stop between ten and eleven o'clock
Adjust your tension screw by loosening or tightening very slightly (One click at a time) and repeat steps 1 & 2 until the proper tension is achieved.
Thinners/texturizers should adjust slightly tighter... around 10 o'clock.
